Walking down a dark hall of the quiet castle was Fiona Belli. And she had never been so scared in her life. She had woken in a small cage and had no idea where she was. She remembered being in a car with her parents, but could remember nothing else. Something terrible must have happened. She was stuck in this strange castle now, all alone. She met a maid of the castle earlier who gave her some clothes, but she disappeared after that. All Fiona wanted now was some answers and a way out of here.

There were so many rooms in this castle and she had looked through most of them already. Others were locked and she didn't know where else to go or where else to look. She wandered back to the outside where there was a locked gate. She walked down some stairs and to a fountain. In one direction was where she woke up in the cage, and she did not want to go back there after what she had seen down there. It had been a gruesome sight.

She saw something then, someone, in the corner of her eye... She stood still until she couldn't hear their footsteps anymore. She then quietly walked past the fountain and looked to the direction they went to. Someone was kneeling down near the dead end over there.
Fiona headed toward them slowly and quietly. She saw it was a red haired girl, who was mumbling something and Fiona couldn't understand a word. Fiona spoke then, "umm, excuse me..."
The girl stood and turned to face Fiona. In her arms was a struggling rabbit. The girl spoke but very quietly and Fiona couldn't hear what she said. She let go of the rabbit and it ran quickly into the bushes. "My name is Violetta," said the girl. "You are... Fiona...?"
Fiona was surprised. How does she know my name?
Violetta said something Fiona again could not hear. She appeared to be talking to herself. When she was finished she looked at Fiona and smiled. "Can you... tell me where I am?" Fiona asked quietly.
Seeing the frightened look on Fiona's face and hearing the sadness in her voice made Violetta feel sad. She was unsure of what Fiona was here for, but the way they spoke about her she was sure it wasn't good. They would probably kill her.
"I will help you," Violetta said. "You must get out of here."
Violetta walked past Fiona and Fiona quickly followed. She followed her up the stairs where Violetta stopped and stared at the closed gate. She was mumbling something to herself again. "What is it?" Fiona asked.
"It's nothing," Violetta replied. She looked at Fiona, "I will help you out of here... I would like to leave, too."
"Why are we here?" Fiona asked. But instead of a reply, Violetta gasped suddenly. Fiona backed away when she came closer. "I will have to take care of these," Violetta looked at the cuts and bruises Fiona had on her legs. Fiona wasn't sure how she got them. "I promise to not let anything happen to you," said Violetta. Fiona slowly followed when Violetta started walking again. She followed quietly far behind while Violetta led the way through the castle. When Fiona entered the kitchen, she found that Violetta was standing still.
"What is it?" Fiona asked.
"What do you mean?" asked Violetta. "You can never get out," she spoke quietly. She whispered something Fiona could not understand. Her voice sounded different each time she spoke. She was becoming louder.
"What is it you think you can do?"
"I can-"
"You cannot do anything, you stupid brat!"
"Stop it, leave me alone!"
"Stop trying to be so nice..."
"I'm-"
"You cannot help anyone!"
Violetta continued to argue with herself. The rest of her words came out so fast that Fiona couldn't understand them. And then she became quiet and her hand slowly reached out and felt along a long, sharp knife that was on the table. She took it and held it tightly in her hand. She turned to Fiona and smiled. Fiona took a step back. Violetta was slowly coming closer and the look on her face was a lot different than before. "We will have fun, Fiona... before I cut you up," an evil grin came upon her face.

Fiona ran away in horror, scared to death. She could hear Violetta chasing behind her. She ran up the stairs and into the bedroom, closing the door behind her. What was she to do now? She looked at the bed and ran over to it and hid underneath. She heard Violetta's footsteps stop outside the door. Fiona struggled to hold her breath, trying to be as quiet as she could.
She heard the door open and her heart was pounding harder in her chest. She saw Violetta looking around the room, still holding that knife tightly in her hand. When Violetta was close to the bed and Fiona heard her own heart beating louder than ever, painfully against her chest. She was sure that Violetta could hear it and she would be found, but she was lucky. Violetta walked away and through the door to the outside. Fiona remained still and quiet under the bed until she was sure Violetta was gone. When she came out, she quickly exited the room.

Fiona wandered the castle again, all alone. And now she had to worry about being killed by that strange woman. She couldn't get it out of her head, how she had suddenly changed...
She entered a room with empty birdcages and a strange machine that she could type words on. She had already been in here, but decided to look around again, in hopes that she would find something that would get her out of here.
And then her heart skipped a beat when she heard footsteps. She looked to the doorway and saw Violetta enter the room. She was still holding the knife.
"Fiona!" cried Violetta, and she ran toward her. Fiona backed away as far as she could, terrified. "I was looking for you," said Violetta. "I was worried!"

Worried? Fiona thought. She tried to kill me!

"What's the matter?" Violetta asked, taking a few steps toward Fiona. She was saddened by the frightened look on Fiona's face.
"...It's because of you, isn't it?" Violetta said with sudden anger in her voice. She then quietly laughed to herself.
"Just go away!" she screamed.
She looked at Fiona and saw that she was slowly moving away. Violetta turned around and started for the door. She closed it and turned back to Fiona, walking toward her with a smile.
"Oh, you're not going anywhere," Violetta smirked. She stopped and held the sharp end of the knife to the palm of her hand. Blood ran down her arm and dripped to the floor. She pushed the knife in deeper and smiled. "I want you to scream for me."

With nowhere to run, Fiona was trapped. The insane girl came toward her, her expression changing with each step. She would cry, saying that she was sorry, and she would laugh, her smile cold and cruel.
But all Fiona could do was scream. Her screams echoed through the castle...
This is a fan fiction for the video game Haunting Ground/Demento that I wrote a few years ago and recently found again. It features the lovely character Violetta Prudence, an original character created by the wonderful :icondama-rossa:!
